Welcome to the Lower East Side/East Village Photo Project.

Through this project I am hoping to supply you with the ambiance of the neighborhood during the late 1980's - early 1990's. It revolves around those persons who attended The Cooper Union during this time period. If you were a student at Cooper Union during this time period please contact me as I am very interested in your photos of the neighborhood/living spaces from this time. Or feel free to contribute stories, comments, responses to images here.

The images here revolve around a gut response to surroundings and also may eminate from the manditory beginning photo classes at Cooper during that time period (Photo M&M), but is not limited to this concept. This was one of the ideas which I think tie togther the project as a whole.

For more information as to the hows and whys see my initial mutterings here. I will add more up to date info and thoughts soon.

As I receive more content the format of this site most likely will change. I hope to keep it easy to navigate.

ALSO, if you have a dial up connection i will do my best to make a low rez version of this site for you. for now i need to focus on the initial content, so please be patient (or check it out at work...hee hee)

Please pass this site on to others!!!! The more content I recieve, the richer the experience.

and.....

Dear Everyone,

As an aside, i can't stress enough the non-importance of the phrase "my negatives are non-descript". This is simply not true. EVERYTHING, more or less, has changed here in the 'hood. I hesitate to do a "comparison" sort of thing, but in some cases i will, for those who don't haunt the neighborhood anymore. For instance, that mural with the "Grigo" or whatever eyepatch guy is gone. Gas Station is gone. Most empty lots and some gardens are gone. No more chickens. No more corn stalks. Little graffiti. No, really, check it out sometime. But bring your cash, unless you are planning on eating at Odessa.
